Women 3.0: All Things Web3 — Issue #3

How was your Twos-Day?

If you didn’t check the calendar, I don’t blame you… ever since my amazing, beautiful, time-warping niece was born — my days, dates, hours and minutes have all blended and blurred together.

Though, yesterday was a standout: 2–22–22.

Only few of you might know I have a witchy side (nope, not a typo); most of the time I refrain from spewing my manifestations, meditations or spiritual musings on others unless solicited.

But again, yesterday was a standout.

And — relevant to this newsletter, this community, this work we’re all doing.

How is it relevant, you might be wondering?

(Yes, you may scroll past this section if numerology ain’t your cup of tea… if you haven’t already, lol)

Well, from my understanding (yes, I had to do some Googling)… the number 2 is connected with — and representative of — partnerships, building and cooperation.

Makes sense, right? It takes 2 to tango.

So frens — let’s get dancing.

To me, this significant date was a little energy burst and reminder that in this Web3 community, we’re building something greater.

Sure, I want to manifest being the next artist who sells out her NFT collection for $1 million… (though a lot of the success stories I’ve read seem to be from young teens — so there might be a cuteness factor I’ve grown out of here…)

But beyond that — I see the partnerships, building and cooperation that’s needed to bring those dreams to fruition.

I’m learning how most successful projects have multiple team leads and run like a small startup — you need a Discord community manager, a developer if you want to go the generative route, someone (or a few someone’s) to help with the launch date/mint date, an actual artist themselves, probably someone to schedule all your Twitter spaces…

And I’m seeing more and more how in order to be successful in this space, we can’t deny that. We can’t be a team of one.

We have to take the risk of trusting others, in order to build something bigger than ourselves.

I believe it’s the only way it can be done.

Now, what is this transcendent dream I’m speaking of? What, exactly, are we building with Web3?

I’ll tackle that next week :)

Why don’t many women invest in crypto? Amber’s Chantelle de la Ray explains

It’s been exciting to see a rise in women in crypto, but there’s still an incredible imbalance with men dominating the fintech space. One of the reasons behind it that I’m most interested in & discuss on my podcast: Risk aversion.

World’s largest NFT marketplace OpenSea hacked, users lose NFTs

OK — this was bad. It wasn’t a $200M hack like some say, but it is definitely a reminder to be safe out there. Go with your gut and if something seems fishy, don’t buy in.

Not Web3-Related… BUT The US Women’s Soccer Score Equal Pay Settlement!

Holler — these women are bad a$$es. Yes, I’m a soccer junkie having grown up with Abby Wambach as my hero… but this is a huge win for women: After a six-year legal battle, the US women’s soccer team is finally getting equal pay.

🎙 Who We’re Talking To

Mel Shapcott, Crypto Artist

OK so I’m not actually talking to Mel until the next week or two, but her post this week was just too good:
