Women 3.0: All Things Web3 — Issue #5

Today’s theme is nostalgia.

But not the wistful longing kind — more so the “head-in-the-clouds, slightly-turned-up smile, grateful for the past” kind. You know what I’m talking about?

Not so much regret; more so reminiscence.

Joyfully feeling in to past moments and memories.

Anything can bring this about — illness, heartbreak, death, new life, changing jobs, moving to a new house or city, hearing an old song (for me, Sugar We’re Goin’ Down by Fall Out Boy takes me right on back to the high school skating rink on a Friday night, trying to slyly let go of the boy’s hand I was holding before my dad came in to pick me up), smelling an old smell — like cinnamon raisin toast popping up extra crispy out of the toaster when I’d visit my grandmother in northeast Philadelphia (extra butter, please)

And yeah, today alone I heard of a dear pup passing away suddenly, an old neighbor too… I talked to a dear friend’s journey as she gets closer to bringing new life into this world… I gazed at an old painting that was gifted to me by someone I haven’t spoken to in years… I pondered about the intricacies of our relationships and the special things we hold on to from each one of them.

But I did it all, joyfully. Because we can’t live there, we can’t get stuck there. We can honor and recall the past, but we can’t change it and if we don’t learn from it and move forward with that knowledge… then aren’t we doing it all a disservice? If we don’t look back on it with gratitude and move forward from that place of peace, then aren’t we still harboring negativity — which will do us no good?

I’ll cut my so-called journal entry off there… and start to explain –

It does indeed relate to NFTs and Web3!

Like everything in life, it all ties together and it all makes sense.

Earlier this week, I came across the ultra-nostalgic 90’s Babes NFT. Umm yeah, I think this was made for me. As a ’93 babe myself, I took one look at the PFP with her choker and cellphone the size of a brick that had the one and only best game on it (Snake! Duh), the scrunchie, the landline phone that you had to try and make stretch into your bedroom so you could gush over Cat’s outfit or how Frank gave you his pencil in math class, the butterfly hair clips, and the CDs you’d make for friends because mixed tapes were so ‘old skool’… and oh my gosh, I decided right then & there to put it on my NFT wish-list. (Yes, I have one of those… and yes, I’ll be sending it in to Santa this year.)

Then I had a call with YellowHeart NFT (who will be joining us on the podcast next week!!), and got reallllyy sad when I saw I missed their free Maroon 5 NFTs. I mean, She Will Be Loved was my early 2000’s anthem! (Don’t ask me to sing it at karaoke, because I won’t. No one can hit the octaves of Adam Levine.)

Then I read how LimeWire is coming back as an NFT marketplace — And I need to know, did anyone else nearly wreck their chunky desktop computer by scraping so many songs off that thing? Because I can very clearly my sister remember yelling at me for all the viruses it got, while I just had to download one more Mariah Carey jam.

Anyhow, point is: These are all pretty sweet examples of taking the old, and bringing it back to life in a new way. Learning what worked, what didn’t, and growing from that. (As my mom tells me — you better hold on to that really cute top, because sooner or later everything comes back in style.)

So next time you find yourself reminiscing, remember to do it with a smile on your face, an air of curiosity for what you learned, and a touch of gratitude for having had it in your life.

Also, super curious to hear your nostalgic faves… so drop them in the comments plz! (I know I’m not the only one who’s checked the value of my Pokemon cards as NFTs…)

A peep at one of my NFTs!

Alright, so in case you’re wondering what I did over the weekend… I’ve finally checked off one step in this process. A big step. The first one I’d say: I converted about 50 paintings that I have sitting in my studio into NFTs! Woohoo. (See above!)

Now, I’m trying to figure out how to mint, where to mint… and I think I’m pretty close to it. But of course, I got to take my thoughts to the people! you = my people.

I’m thinking I’ll start with a collection of 30 1/1 NFTs — all handpainted first, then photographed, then digitized in Photoshop, and minted as a collection on to OpenSea. They’ll be up for auction and I’m thinking the highest bidder will also get the physical painting?

#2 — from there, I want to release 3 1/1 NFTs per week. Each will have 3 copies (so 9 NFTs total) where I slightly change the color or how I digitize it. One of each copy will be given to that week’s podcast guest. One of each copy will be given away to the public, aka you. And one of each copy will go up for auction.

There’s more to the roadmap, but this is the beginning.

Thoughts?!! Hit me with it.
